Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing into law the bill converting the Federal Polytechnic Kabo into the Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo, in Kano State.
The President’s correspondence approving the establishment of three new universities—in Kano, Akwa Ibom, and Oyo states—was formally read on the Senate floor during Tuesday’s plenary, presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Senator Barau, the sponsor of the Kabo Polytechnic conversion bill, described the development as a major stride toward expanding access to higher education and equipping Nigerian youths with critical 21st-century skills.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau emphasized that education remains the foundation for national development.
“As we all know, youths are the cornerstone of societal advancement. The upgrade of the Polytechnic to a University of Science and Technology aligns with global best practices,” he stated. “With our large youth population, investing in human capital through such institutions is crucial for driving economic growth and technological advancement.”

He highlighted that the university would focus on cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and cybersecurity, preparing young Nigerians for the digital economy.
Senator Barau congratulated the management, staff, students, and host communities of the former Federal Polytechnic Kabo on the institution’s new status.
