The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I Jibrin, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the transformation of the Federal Colleges of Education in Kano and Zaria into Federal Universities of Education.
President Tinubu has sanctioned the conversion of the two FCEs to Federal universities of education to bolster the nation’s educational system in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda. The Federal Ministry of Education has dispatched memorandums conveying the approval to the two institutions.
Senator Barau, through a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, emphasized that the conversion will not only expand the accessibility to university education but also elevate the standards of teachers’ education and the teaching profession in the country.
“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to our esteemed leader, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for endorsing the conversion of the Federal Colleges of Education, Kano and Zaria, into Federal Universities of Education.
“This development aligns with our longstanding advocacy. I presented two bills for the elevation during the previous assembly, albeit without success. However, by the grace of God, it has now materialized with Mr. President’s approval of the conversion.
“The elevation/conversion of the two FCEs in Kano and Zaria will not only augment the accessibility to university education but also enhance teachers’ education and the teaching profession in the country, which serves as the bedrock for the advancement of all societies.
“This further underscores Mr. President’s particular interest in the North West geopolitical zone, which warrants special attention given the challenges confronting us in the region.
The enhancement of these centers of higher learning follows the establishment of the North West Development Commission (NWDC) in recent months. On behalf of the entire populace of Kano State and the North West geopolitical zone, I convey our sincere gratitude to His Excellency for these initiatives,” he remarked.
Senator Barau, who also holds the position of First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, felicitates the management, staff, students, and communities of the institutions, urging them to sustain the highest standards of academic excellence.
He expressed confidence that his proposal for the conversion of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Bichi, into the Federal University of Education (Technical), Bichi, to supply the necessary technical training to Nigerian youths, will be accorded the same level of consideration.
