The Nigeria Senate has reaffirmed its commitment in providing quality and clean water, and to establish water for sustainable irrigation and agricultural products to end food security in Nigeria.
Added that water is life, and it is the responsibility of the government to provide quality and clean water for the citizens.
The Chairman Committee on Water Resources, Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari made this assertion at the inaugural meeting on Thursday at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja .
He reassured the commitment of the committee to provide quality water service by working together with ministries and MDA’s.
The chairman emphasized that oversight functions of the ministry and agencies as part of the constitutional mandate of Nigeria. “This inaugural meeting just to establish the plans of the committee, the Senate embarked on oversight functions visiting the ministry of water resources and its MDA’s to have a clear view of projects.
“The committee is very critical about the importance of clean water, and land degradation that is affecting some parts of the country.
“Most especially in kebbi state, the purpose of establishment is for the citizens, and some communities to have access to clean and portable water, some is irrigation process and agricultural products. This committee has a lot of work, hoping to see this doing the right thing for society.”
Other senators making their comments, said that this inaugural meeting is very important to the committee. “Just as the chairman has outlined. Knowing that water is life, the chairman has assured the ministry of the committee’s support. Water is extensive with the current situation of the country.
“The significance of water to livelihood and human nature. This committee needs to do more for food security because looking at it critically our people are predominantly farmers, most especially the northeast state’s most of them are famers.
“The committee needs to indicate experts to test the current challenges facing the country on food security and other related disasters, also this can reduce the unemployment rate in the country and make the country proper.
“The current challenges facing the country of food security and combat related matters because this committee can generate employment opportunity can be difficult because its purpose since two consoles as you said earlier want to know much attention developments are passed on this indications and related matters is our come to so I think it is important to some German has been home on what was supporting you and give you the necessary cooperation.”
Speaking on, a senator from the northeast said that for the last 16 years while he was in the National Assembly, has always been a water committee ambassador because of the challenge of hard work and in particular developing countries like Nigeria should have access to clean waters.
“Over the last two decades, I do not feel satisfied with succeeding governments from 1999 to this moment. Have not actually given water the deserve biology at a very large part of humans expectations.
“Coming together with combined various experiences will create the synergy and the energy put together by providing clean water for a sustainable irrigation system.
“Flooding puddles of water, like my colleagues have said earlier, one commitment to support this committee and with the capacity of the chairman, we not just develop Water Infrastructure, this Committee will also contribute to sustainable water policies that will help the nation and in particular state and local government because when it comes to what they have to do, everybody needs to be grassroots
“So commend the chairman of this committee. I believe all of us will be entangled because there’s no job. That will follow the work plan critically to ensure that we meet the targets set by the Senate, also to put together all the thoughts.”
