The Senate on Tuesday passed a vote of confidence in its President, Godswill Akpabio, endorsing his leadership style.
The upper chamber also addressed last week’s chaotic session, referring the matter to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, chaired by Senator Neda Imasuen, for investigation.
These resolutions followed a point of order on privileges raised by Senate spokesperson Adeyemi Adaramodu, representing Ekiti South. Adaramodu drew his colleagues’ attention to the actions of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who disrupted plenary last Thursday in protest over the unannounced relocation of her seat.
He argued that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s vocal objections misrepresented the situation, fueling media speculation and controversy.
In response, the Senate Leader proposed a motion to support the Senate President’s handling of the situation, which received overwhelming approval. He then moved a second motion to refer the matter to the Ethics and Privileges Committee, a motion that was also widely endorsed.
