The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education and Core International, has launched the Nigerian Capital Market, Secondary Schools Quiz Competition, a national initiative aimed at promoting financial literacy and deepening young Nigerians’ understanding of the capital market.
The competition, which kicks off in September 2025, will span six months and engage 370 secondary schools—10 from each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). It will follow a three-tiered format: state-level preliminaries, zonal semi-finals, and a grand national finale.
Supported by Financial Markets Indaba—a sister organization of Core International, the competition will incorporate a Virtual Trading Platform powered by real-time data from the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), simulating real-world stock trading to enhance practical financial education for participating students.
In a statement on Wednesday, Director of Core International and Financial Markets Indaba, Mr. Patrick Muzundo, emphasized that the initiative will not only build foundational financial knowledge among students but also cultivate decision-making skills, academic excellence, teamwork, and inclusivity.
To ensure effective participation, teachers will undergo specialized training workshops to support student preparation and facilitate the integration of financial literacy into the school curriculum.

According to Muzundo, the competition aligns with the SEC’s investor education mandate and is themed “Empowering Future Investors through Knowledge”. It is designed to nurture a generation of financially literate Nigerians capable of making informed decisions in the capital market and beyond.
He added that the initiative leverages the national engagement capabilities of the Financial Markets Indaba platform, known for its expertise in delivering impactful financial education programs.
