Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on the newly inaugurated President of the Lagos State Public Service Club, Mr. Olukayode Odunuga, to establish a lasting legacy through innovation and strategic partnerships.
Represented by the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, Sanwo-Olu delivered this message at Odunuga’s inauguration as the club’s 24th president on Friday in Lagos. He encouraged the new leadership to leverage innovation and collaboration to elevate the club to global recognition.
“Remain motivated and effective in your duties. To our newly inaugurated executive council members, your election today is both an honor and a sacred trust. As you take your oath, you are not just assuming office but also accepting a covenant with every member here. Let innovation be the compass that guides your tenure,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
He also urged them to uphold the club’s existing legacy while building new milestones for the future.
“To the outgoing executive council members, I extend my deep appreciation for your selfless service. Every proud member of this club trusts that your legacy will continue to inspire others. The state government will always support initiatives that promote a vibrant, efficient, and motivated public service to build a thriving Lagos,” he added.
The Chairman of the occasion, Chief Kensington Adebutu, Asoju Oba of Lagos, encouraged Odunuga to uphold the standards set by previous administrations. Represented by Mr. Owoseye Shonuga, Adebutu expressed confidence that the new leadership would surpass past achievements.
“When I stepped into this place today, I thought I was dreaming. I appreciate Mr. Governor’s support for the club, as well as the past presidents and executives for their commendable efforts,” he remarked.
The immediate past president of the club, Mr. Adeniyi Oloko, urged more people to join the club and take advantage of its facilities.
“Health is wealth, and it is important for people to make use of the sporting facilities available in the club,” Oloko noted.
In his address, Odunuga pledged to foster unity, enhance social and professional networking, and improve the overall well-being of members through innovative initiatives and infrastructure development.
“Our goal is to create a dynamic and inclusive space where every member feels valued and empowered. My vision is to build a united, inclusive, and progressive club that celebrates diversity and collaboration. We will harness our differences to drive innovation and growth alongside my fellow executive members,” he said.
He also sought the support of the Head of Service for a utility bus and additional clerical staff to safeguard the club’s branches in Ikeja, Epe, and Badagry.

Odunuga highlighted ongoing projects, including modernizing club facilities, introducing digital platforms for enhanced engagement, and expanding recreational and professional development programs.
Established in September 1979, the Lagos State Public Service Club provides a forum for social and sporting activities among state public service officials and the general public. It currently boasts a membership of over 6,000 individuals.
