Today, with a heavy heart, I join the Catholic faithful and Christians across the world in mourning the passing of His Holiness, Pope Francis—a humble servant of God, tireless advocate for the poor, and a beacon of hope for millions.
That his passing comes just after the celebration of Christ’s Resurrection speaks to the sacredness of his return to his Maker—a homecoming at a time of renewed hope and faith for Christians.
Since his election in 2013, Pope Francis brought a message of mercy and compassion to the global stage. He urged us to see the face of Christ in the marginalized—the refugee, the migrant, the forgotten. He challenged the powerful to govern with justice and called on nations to welcome the stranger.
He was not only a spiritual leader but also a moral compass in a troubled world—an unflinching voice for the downtrodden, a steward of the environment, and a bridge-builder in an age of division. He lived the Gospel through his actions and reminded us all that our shared humanity transcends borders, beliefs, and status.
Pope Francis stood in solidarity with the developing world, confronting economic injustice and praying ceaselessly for peace in regions gripped by conflict. His encyclicals were both spiritually profound and deeply relevant—offering clarity, courage, and compassion in an increasingly complex world.
In my 2025 Easter Message, I joined the faithful in giving thanks for the convalescing Pontiff and rejoiced to see him appear to deliver the traditional Easter Sunday blessing from St. Peter’s Basilica.
Alas, just a day later, the Lord called him home—robbing the world of one of its most trenchant voices for justice and one of its fiercest defenders of the Earth.
May the Almighty, whom he served with unwavering devotion, receive His beloved servant into eternal rest.

As we grieve, let us also celebrate his enduring legacy. Let us honour his memory not just with words, but with deeds—by lifting the fallen, healing our communities, and defending the dignity of every human soul.
