The Federal Government has reaffirmed its strong commitment to revitalising Nigeria’s health sector as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, approved the appointment of Dr. Abubakar Baguda Sulaiman as the new Medical Director of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Kware, Sokoto State.
The Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, formally conveyed the President’s approval during a brief ceremony held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja. The appointment, according to the ministry, takes effect from November 10, 2025, for an initial four-year tenure.
In a statement signed on Thursday by Siged Olawal Oplaye, Chief Information Officer of the Ministry, Dr. Salako charged the new Medical Director to prioritise service delivery and strengthen institutional systems.
“Make it better. Make services available to the people. Form a team with your staff. For you to succeed, you must carry everybody along,” the Minister advised. He urged Dr. Sulaiman to operate an all-inclusive, open-door leadership approach that fosters unity of purpose and a conducive working environment.
Dr. Salako further reiterated the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to restructuring, re-strategising and repositioning all federal medical institutions to meet global standards—particularly in administration, personnel development, and patient care.
In his response, Dr. Abubakar Baguda Sulaiman expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu and the leadership of the Ministry of Health for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to justify the trust by improving healthcare delivery for residents of Sokoto State and neighbouring communities.

He assured that his administration would align fully with the national health sector reform agenda, promising to “fulfil his obligations and statutory duties in accordance with the administrative plan of the health sector.”
The Federal Government says it views this appointment as another major step in strengthening specialist healthcare services and enhancing mental health delivery across the country.
