Potiskum, Yobe State – The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and humanitarian partners have scaled up response efforts following massive flooding that ravaged 21 communities across five wards of Potiskum Local Government Area.
Preliminary assessments confirm that over 102 households, comprising 612 persons, remain displaced and are currently camped at Sabon Gari Primary School in Potiskum. Affected families are from Bayan Garejin Dan Juma (56 households), Afghanistan (21 households), and Unguwar Wanzam Dan Fulani (25 households).
Although floodwaters are gradually receding, the humanitarian impact remains severe, with thousands of residents in affected communities, including Old Prison, Filin Mashe, Karofi, Tandari, and Rugan Fulani, struggling to recover their homes and salvage property.
In response, the Yobe State Government through SEMA has up food, temporary shelter, hygiene kits, and medical support in collaboration with NEMA, YEMABUS, and Primary Health Care teams. Relief packages include mats, mosquito nets, blankets, buckets, kettles, and food supplies, while plans are underway to reintegrate displaced households into host communities.

NEMA emphasized its commitment to coordinated humanitarian action, pledging continued collaboration with the Yobe State Government, development partners, and aid agencies to bridge existing gaps in relief delivery and ensure safe resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Authorities assure that recovery measures will prioritize both immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation to restore normalcy for the thousands of residents impacted by the Potiskum floods.
