Abuja, Nigeria — In a night of celebration and inspiration, Peter Oriri, Publisher of Naija Voice Media, was honored with the “Youth Ambassador of the Year” award at the 10th anniversary gala of the African Icon Awards, held at the prestigious Colonnade Hall of Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja.
The milestone event, themed “The True African Leader: The Power of African Youth in Leadership,” celebrated a decade of recognizing exceptional individuals driving transformative change across the continent.
Project Director Ambassador Abraham Lawal emphasized that the anniversary was not just a celebration, but a reflection on past impact and a reaffirmation of the awards’ mission to spotlight youth-driven leadership and innovation in Africa.
Oriri, who also serves as Special Adviser on Publicity and Communications to Senator Allwell Onyesoh (Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Character & Inter-Governmental Affairs), was praised for his resilience, influence in the media space, and dedication to youth empowerment. Presenting the award, Dr. Abadariki Annie Oziohu, CEO of Jonnie Estate Surveyors & Developers, described Oriri as “a shining example of purpose-driven leadership among Nigerian youth.”
In his acceptance speech, Oriri expressed deep gratitude to God, the organizers, his team at Naija Voice Media, and especially his wife and children. He dedicated the award to all young Nigerians striving to make a difference.
The event also honored other distinguished Africans, including Alex Nwankwo (Most Supportive Media Brand), Omowumi Ogunrotimi (Icon Woman of the Year), Engr. Dominic Onuh Akuboh (Icon Man of the Year), and Barr. Jane Danladi, Imeze Cynthia Iwugo, among others recognized for excellence in entrepreneurship, education, health, innovation, and humanitarian service.

Delivering the keynote address, Barr. Omowumi Ogunrotimi, founder of Gender Mobile Initiative, called for stronger support for gender justice and rural youth leadership, stressing the importance of inclusive systems for sustainable development.
Founded in 2015, the African Icon Awards has become a premier platform celebrating impactful leadership across sectors. The 2025 edition capped a decade of honoring African excellence with a gala dinner, keynote reflections, and strategic networking aimed at fostering a new generation of visionary leaders.
