The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Elders Council in Anambra State has thrown its weight behind the State Executive Committee led by Mr. Chidi Chidebe, urging the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to reject calls for its dissolution.
Rising from a crucial meeting in Awka, the council described the state chapter as peaceful, united, and in capable hands. In a communiqué signed by Chief Felix Oli, Chairman, and Dr. Odili Ojukwu, Secretary, the elders expressed confidence in the leadership’s performance and its active engagement with stakeholders.
They dismissed as “false and regrettable” allegations against the executive committee, warning that any move to dissolve it would destabilize the party in Anambra and undermine preparations for the November 8 governorship election and the National Convention.
“The Anambra PDP Elders Council firmly states that any attempt to disrupt or dissolve the legitimately elected Executive Committee would be a direct invitation to instability and unrest,” the communiqué stated.
The council clarified that there is no legal action pending against the executive committee, describing rumours to the contrary as unfounded. They urged the NWC to remain vigilant against misinformation and resist external influences seeking to cause division within the party.
Highlighting the NWC’s success in conducting a free and fair congress in Anambra, the elders stressed that it would be counterproductive for the national leadership to undermine its own achievements.
“We have made progress, and there is no justification for regression. The Executive maintains a strong working relationship with the NWC,” the statement read.

The elders commended the NWC, National Executive Committee, PDP Governors’ Forum, Board of Trustees, and National Caucus for their roles in stabilizing the party. They recommended that the NWC convene a stakeholders’ meeting in Anambra to accurately gauge the mood of party members.
They also expressed appreciation to the acting National Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagun, for his leadership and support during challenging times.
