Esteemed dignitaries hailing from Kano State, including scholars, legal experts, industrialists, activists, journalists, and others united under the banner of Kano Concerned Citizens Movement (KCCM), have bestowed an Award of Excellence upon Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I Jibrin, in acknowledgment of his exceptional performance over the past year.
Senator Barau, who also holds the esteemed position of First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, ascended to the role of Deputy President of the Senate on June 13th, 2023, during the inauguration of the 10th Senate.
Throughout the inaugural year of the 10th Senate, Senator Barau has distinguished himself as the Senator with the highest number of private member’s bills, totaling 21.
Accompanied by a renowned scholar, Professor Garba Shehu, members of KCCM visited the office of the Deputy President of the Senate on Tuesday to bestow this accolade upon Senator Barau.
Professor Shehu expounded on the decision to present Senator Barau with the highest honor of the movement, citing his exceptional performance during his tenure as Deputy President of the Senate.
A statement released by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Deputy President of the Senate, Alhaji Ismail Mudashir, quoted Professor Shehu as lauding Senator Barau as a boon to Kano State and the nation at large.
“You have made significant strides during your initial year as Deputy President of the Senate, not only within Kano but across the entirety of the nation, thereby contributing to our country’s advancement.
“Your influence spans across various sectors, with particular emphasis on the education domain, notably within our tertiary institutions. Your initiatives, such as scholarship programs and infrastructure development within tertiary institutions, have been instrumental in your selection for this prestigious award. This stands as the preeminent accolade of our movement,”Professor Shehu remarked.
He highlighted the positive impact of the Second Extraordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament held in Kano on the state’s economy, commending Senator Barau for spearheading the hosting of the event in the state.
In response, the Deputy President of the Senate expressed gratitude to the movement, affirming that the award would serve as a catalyst for further endeavors.
“This recognition will propel me to enhance my efforts in supporting all sectors within our state and nation. Every accolade signifies commendable work, yet it also serves as a clarion call for further action.
“We remain committed to collaborating with associations and entities sharing common objectives in advancing the development of Kano State and the country as a whole,”he articulated.
Characterizing the state of educational institutions in Kano as deplorable, Senator Barau vowed to extend his initiatives to all 44 local government areas of the state to address the challenges confronting the education sector.
