Operatives of the Ogun Area 1 Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Idiroko, have intercepted contraband goods valued at ₦229,112,424 within seven days.
The Ogun Area 1 Controller, Comptroller Mohammed Salisu Shuaibu, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the command’s headquarters in Idiroko, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to Comptroller Shuaibu, the seized items included 2,169 bags of foreign parboiled rice (each weighing 50kg) and 1,128 parcels of cannabis sativa, commonly known as Indian hemp.
Other confiscated items included:
21 bales and 2 sacks of used clothing,
166 pieces of pneumatic tyres,
4,360 cartons of imported shoes, and
250 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, each containing 25 liters.
The Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seizures totaled ₦229,112,424. These items were intercepted through intelligence gathering, strategic surveillance, and collaboration with patriotic Nigerians. The operations began on December 11, 2024, when Comptroller Shuaibu assumed office.
The contraband was intercepted in various locations, including Ilaro, the Alamala-Rounda axis of Abeokuta, Obada Oko in Abeokuta, and the Imeko-Afon area.

In addition to the contraband, one foreign-used 2012 Toyota Highlander and 20 other vehicles used to transport the illegal goods were also seized.
“Our operatives remain resolute in dismantling smuggling networks that undermine our economy, endanger lives, and hinder local industries,” Shuaibu stated.
He further emphasized that the command would maintain vigilance and continue working with other security agencies to combat smuggling and protect the nation’s economy.
