The National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) has announced plans to formally invest Prof. Anthony Nnaemeka Ikefuna as its 24th President, marking a new leadership phase for the nation’s premier postgraduate medical institution.
Ikefuna was elected at the College’s 137th Governing Board Meeting held on Dec. 5, 2025. His investiture ceremony is scheduled for March 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the College’s premises.
A distinguished academic and administrator, Ikefuna is a graduate of the University of Ibadan, where he completed his medical training on a Federal Government scholarship. He later specialised in Paediatrics at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu.
He rose through the ranks to become Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2011.
Within the College, Ikefuna has held several strategic positions, including Vice President and Chief Examiner of the Faculty of Paediatrics. He also chaired key committees such as Quality Assurance, Disciplinary Committee, and the Senate Committee on Credentials and Fellowship Award, underscoring his deep involvement in academic standards and institutional governance.
An accomplished scholar, Ikefuna has authored over 150 peer-reviewed articles and supervised more than 70 Fellowship dissertations, contributing significantly to medical research and specialist training in Nigeria.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and the Nigerian Academy of Medicine.
The College congratulated Ikefuna on his emergence and expressed confidence in his capacity to advance its mandate of training highly skilled medical specialists and strengthening healthcare delivery in the country.
