The Northern Senators Forum expresses its sincere sympathy to the Borno State Government and the victims of the recent flooding incident.
Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, articulated this sentiment in a statement issued on Thursday.
He conveyed, on behalf of the Forum, “our deepest condolences to the people and government of Borno State in light of the tragic loss of lives and property caused by the collapse of the Alau Dam.
Our hearts and thoughts are with the families of the victims and those who have been displaced by this catastrophic flood.
“We commend Vice President Kashim Shettima for his prompt visit to assess the situation and provide guidance during this challenging period. His swift response exemplifies the government’s dedication to assisting the affected communities.
Furthermore, “we applaud President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for allocating 3 billion naira to each state for the purpose of addressing flood-related disasters. This timely initiative will significantly alleviate the suffering of those impacted.
“We urge all states to take proactive measures and formulate strategic plans to combat climate change and prevent future environmental calamities. The Senate remains committed to enacting legislation and policies that mitigate the repercussions of environmental disasters and promote sustainable development.
“In solidarity with the people of Borno State, we pledge our unwavering support during this trying time.”
