BEIJING, China — Nigeria has commended the establishment of the World Data Organization (WDO), describing it as a significant step toward strengthening global data governance and fostering digital economic growth.
Speaking at the inaugural assembly of the organization on Monday at the International Conference Centre, the Spokesperson of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, emphasized the need for a secure, rule-based global data system to enhance international cooperation.
Ebienfa noted that the creation of the WDO comes at a critical time when data has become a strategic resource driving industrial transformation and economic expansion worldwide. He described the initiative as a “good one,” highlighting its potential to promote structured data access, strengthen collaboration, and ensure responsible data management among nations.
He further reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to engaging with global stakeholders in shaping data governance frameworks, stressing the country’s interest in building a robust digital ecosystem that supports innovation and sustainable development.
Headquartered in Beijing, the World Data Organization is a non-governmental, non-profit platform designed to coordinate international cooperation on data use and governance. The organization aims to bridge global digital divides, unlock the value of data, and drive inclusive digital economic growth.
