The Federal Government of Nigeria will host a high-level health security dialogue with the People’s Republic of China on pandemic preparedness and response in Abuja on Monday, March 30, 2026.
The event, organised by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and titled “Lessons on Pandemic Preparedness and Response: Insights from China and Nigeria,” is expected to bring together senior government officials, global health institutions, policymakers, and scientists from both countries.
The dialogue comes as nations worldwide continue to strengthen their health systems in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on improving readiness for future public health emergencies.
According to a statement signed by Ado Bako, Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations, the meeting will serve as a platform to exchange practical lessons and deepen collaboration toward building more resilient health systems.
Key discussions will centre on strengthening disease surveillance and early warning systems, improving emergency response coordination, enhancing health system resilience, and building community trust through effective risk communication. Participants will also examine strategies for advancing international cooperation in pandemic preparedness.
The engagement is expected to explore opportunities for expanded Nigeria–China collaboration in public health research and innovation, laboratory systems and pathogen surveillance, technology transfer, capacity development, and coordinated responses to cross-border health threats.

The event will feature opening remarks by senior government officials, a keynote address by a leading global health expert, panel discussions involving Nigerian and international stakeholders, and a post-event press briefing.
