Nigeria commemorates its 64th Independence Day today, October 1, 2024. This significant occasion marks Nigeria’s liberation from British colonial rule, achieved on October 1, 1960.
The day’s festivities commence with an address from the President, broadcasted on radio and television. As part of the celebrations honoring Nigeria’s 64th Independence, the Unveiling and Rebranding Nigeria Initiative (URNI) organized a novelty football match with the City Gates Sport Club (CGS) earlier today in the city of Abuja.
The match serves as a symbol of unity, love, and a commitment to promoting positive change and nation-building through sports in Nigeria. Speaking at the event, Ambassador Dele Momoh (Member Board of Patriot Unveiling and Rebranding Nigeria Initiative) emphasized that the purpose of the match is to bring together individuals from diverse sectors of society to celebrate Nigeria’s rich heritage and ongoing journey towards a brighter future.
Furthermore, Dr. Chris Agiri, President and founder of the Flag Foundation, highlighted the significance of community engagement, youth involvement, and teamwork—values that are fundamental to URNI’s mission to rebrand Nigeria.
Brigadier Gen. David Shajaba, Retired ( Chairman Board of Trustees, Unveiling and Rebranding Nigeria Initiatives, urged Nigerians and the youth to embrace unity, sports, culture, and uphold harmony and tolerance within the nation.
Expanding on this, Dr. Akomolafe Adeboye, President of CGS, emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration and healthy competition to inspire a sense of patriotism, responsibility, optimism, and unity among Nigerians as we collectively strive towards a more prosperous and unified nation, recognizing that sports serve as a powerful unifying force.
The football match featured certificate and award presentations to deserving individuals, networking opportunities, refreshments, among other attractions.
