The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has announced plans for the 2026 Nigeria Diaspora Economic Conference (NIDEC), with a strong focus on redirecting diaspora remittances from consumption to sustainable investment in Nigeria’s economy.
Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, disclosed at a press conference in Abuja that the conference will hold from August 13 to 15, 2026, at the Apollo Convention Center in Toronto.
She described the event as a strategic platform to harness over $20 billion in annual diaspora remittances toward productive sectors that can drive national development.
“Beyond financial contributions, our diaspora community brings skills, knowledge, and global exposure vital to Nigeria’s growth. NIDEC 2026 will connect these professionals directly with investment-ready opportunities back home,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
With the theme “Invest Nigeria, Thrive Abroad,” the conference will spotlight key sectors including fintech, agriculture, mining, renewable energy, healthcare, real estate, and capital markets.
Dabiri-Erewa emphasised that the conference will prioritise tangible outcomes through business-to-business engagements, partnerships, and the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at boosting job creation, technology transfer, and sustainable development.
NiDCOM is organising the event in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa and the Canadian High Commission in Abuja to ensure seamless participation for delegates.
The conference will coincide with a week-long celebration of Nigerian culture, including the Flavours of Nigeria Festival and a special edition of the The Headies, which will be staged in Canada for the first time.
Dabiri-Erewa called on state governments, investors, financial institutions, and diaspora professionals to leverage the platform to secure investments and shape policies that support economic growth.
She also revealed that arrangements are underway with the Canadian government to introduce a special visa facilitation process using an Event Code (RRRC) to ease participation.

In his remarks, Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to Canada, Abba Zanna-Kawu, assured that efforts are ongoing to deliver a memorable and impactful conference.
NIDEC 2026 is expected to attract a wide range of stakeholders, reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to deepening diaspora engagement and unlocking investment opportunities for national development.
