NiDCOM Hails Historic Emergence of Thelma Ekiyor-Solanke as First Black Global CEO of Women for Women International
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has celebrated the historic appointment of Thelma Ekiyor-Solanke as the first Black International Chief Executive Officer of Women for Women International, describing it as a defining moment for Nigeria and the global African diaspora.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Commission said the appointment marks a significant milestone that highlights the growing global influence and leadership of Nigerians in international development and humanitarian efforts.
NiDCOM noted that Ekiyor-Solanke, a seasoned professional with decades of experience in economic empowerment, gender advocacy and sustainable development, embodies the excellence and resilience associated with Nigerians making impact across the world.
As CEO, she is expected to lead the organisation’s global mission of supporting women survivors of war and conflict, providing them with access to education, financial resources, and community-based support systems across several countries.
Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described the development as “a proud and defining moment for Nigeria and the diaspora,” adding that Ekiyor-Solanke’s leadership reflects the brilliance and far-reaching contributions of Nigerians globally.
