The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of a Nigerian national, Emeka Christian, in Pune, India, describing the incident as senseless and disturbing.
Christian was allegedly beaten to death by two fellow Nigerians, identified as Chukwudi Okafor, 31, and Samuel Eze, reportedly over a romantic dispute.
In a press statement signed by the Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, NiDCOM, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, mnipr, the Commission extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, noting that no family should be made to endure such a painful loss.
NiDCOM called on relevant Indian authorities to carry out a thorough, transparent, and timely investigation into the incident to ensure that justice is served.
The Commission also used the occasion to urge Nigerians living abroad to act as their brothers’ keepers, resolve conflicts peacefully through dialogue, and uphold the highest standards of conduct in their host communities.
“As ambassadors of our great nation in their respective domains, your actions abroad reflect on Nigeria’s image. Let us choose unity, respect, and lawfulness in every situation,” the statement said.

Commenting on the incident, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, cautioned against violence within the diaspora community, stressing that disputes must never escalate into bloodshed.
“Violence has no place among us. Together, we can build a stronger, more positive diaspora community,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
