ABUJA – Ambassador Nura Abba Rimi has assumed duty as the new Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Steel Development, pledging to build on existing reforms and accelerate efforts to revive Nigeria’s steel sector.
The formal handover ceremony was held on Friday at the Ministry’s headquarters, where the outgoing Permanent Secretary, Dr. Chris Osa Isokpunwu, officially transferred leadership to Rimi following his recent redeployment from the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.
In his remarks, Isokpunwu expressed appreciation to the management and staff of the ministry for their cooperation and dedication during his tenure. He highlighted several initiatives undertaken to advance the Federal Government’s vision of revitalising the steel sector.
According to a statement signed by the Assistant Director, Information and Public Relations of the Ministry, Tine-Iulun M. A., Isokpunwu emphasised that a functional steel industry is vital for national development.
He noted that no country can achieve sustainable industrial growth without a vibrant steel sector capable of supporting manufacturing, infrastructure and economic expansion.
The outgoing permanent secretary congratulated Rimi on his redeployment and expressed confidence in his ability to provide effective leadership that would further strengthen the ministry’s mandate to develop a globally competitive steel industry in Nigeria.
He also urged the management and staff of the ministry to extend the same level of cooperation and support to the new permanent secretary.
In his response, Rimi thanked the ministry’s leadership and staff for the warm reception and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the ministry’s strategic objectives.
He described the steel sector as a critical pillar for Nigeria’s industrialisation and economic diversification.

Rimi pledged to promote policies and initiatives that would attract investment, boost local production capacity and strengthen the value chain within the steel industry.
The ceremony was attended by directors, senior management staff and other officials of the ministry, who expressed their readiness to work with the new permanent secretary to deliver on the ministry’s mandate.
