The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is setting a transformative course for the future with the development of its first-ever Strategic Plan, designed to address emerging threats and align with global best practices.
Declaring open a stakeholder validation workshop for the plan, NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, described the initiative as a bold milestone in the agency’s history. The strategic document, which spans 2025 to 2029, marks a significant shift toward more structured, forward-thinking emergency response in Nigeria.
“This is the first time the Agency is taking such a deliberate and ambitious step,” Mrs. Umar said, emphasizing that the plan was shaped through a consultative, evidence-based approach. “It reflects the urgent realities facing our nation—from climate-related disasters and insecurity to displacement and public health crises, all of which demand greater coordination, accountability, and preparedness.”

She reiterated NEMA’s commitment to strengthening its operational capacity and ensuring a more proactive, efficient response to complex humanitarian challenges across the country.
The workshop also featured expert presentations from Dr. Umesi Emenike, Director of Human Resources Management, and saw active engagement from NEMA directors and key disaster management stakeholders across sectors.
