The Vice President of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Governing Board, Senator Kashim Shettima, officially launched the distribution of relief materials to victims of the 2024 flood disaster on Friday, in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.
Speaking at the event, Vice President Shettima emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, to supporting vulnerable citizens and alleviating poverty across the country.
He commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for his visionary leadership and assured him of the Federal Government’s continued support.
In his response, Governor Abdullahi Sule expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for its intervention.
He noted that the relief materials and agricultural inputs distributed were procured using funds donated by the Federal Government to states affected by the 2024 floods.
Earlier, the Honorable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Margaret Elayo
, highlighted that a post-flood assessment by a dedicated committee identified over 2,000 affected individuals who would benefit from the relief items.
The Vice President was accompanied by key NEMA officials from the North Central Zonal Office, including Chief Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Judith Bai, under the supervision of the Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Adebiyi B. Razaq.

Also present were the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), staff of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, local government chairpersons, and their respective teams.
The relief materials distributed included food and non-food items, building materials, and agricultural inputs such as tractors and improved seedlings to support farmers in rebuilding their livelihoods.
