NEMA Launches ‘Operation Eagle Eye 2025’ to Curb Festive Season Road Crashes, Boost Emergency Response Along Abuja–Lokoja Highway
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Abuja Operations Office has flagged off Operation Eagle Eye 2025 at Giri Junction along the Abuja–Lokoja Federal Highway, in a renewed nationwide effort to enhance road safety, strengthen traffic management, and ensure rapid emergency response during the Yuletide season.
The exercise was formally declared open on behalf of the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, by the Director of Planning, Research and Forecasting, Dr. Onimode Bandele, at a ceremony hosted by the Abuja Operations Office in collaboration with NEMA Headquarters and other critical emergency stakeholders.
Representing the DG, Dr. Bandele reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment to proactive disaster risk reduction and stronger inter-agency coordination. He noted that Operation Eagle Eye remains a strategic annual intervention designed to protect lives and property during periods of heightened vehicular movement and traffic pressure.
Welcoming participants earlier, the Head of the Abuja Operations Office, Mr. Zakari Abubakar, stressed the vital role of the operation in supporting the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in enforcing road discipline and preventing crashes. He highlighted that the Abuja–Lokoja corridor remains one of Nigeria’s busiest and most vulnerable highways during festive periods, underscoring the need for heightened preparedness and vigilance.
The event also featured remarks from NEMA’s Director of Search and Rescue, Air Commodore Usman Bature, along with goodwill messages from key stakeholders including the Director-General of the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Engr.
Abdulrahman Mohammed, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and the Nigerian Red Cross Society. All agencies pledged sustained collaboration throughout the operation.
Highlights of the launch included the inspection of response and extrication equipment to evaluate readiness levels, followed by a joint patrol by participating agencies along critical sections of the highway, signaling the immediate commencement of field activities.

Operation Eagle Eye 2025 is targeted at improving traffic control, preventing road traffic accidents, and ensuring swift rescue and emergency responses throughout the festive period.
NEMA further urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, avoid speeding and reckless driving, and cooperate with safety officials to ensure a safe, orderly, and accident-free Yuletide season.
