The National Emergency Management Agency North Central Zonal Office in Jos, in collaboration with the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BESEMA), commenced the delivery of relief items to victims of communal clashes and farmers/herders crisis in the Kwande/Ushango Federal Constituency of Benue State on Friday, 20th September 2024.
During the delivery, the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, emphasized that the relief materials were intended to provide succor to the victims. Representing the Director General, the North Central Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Eugene Nyelong, highlighted the Federal Government’s concern for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) by approving these items.
He reiterated the importance of fostering tolerance and peaceful coexistence among the people.
Upon receiving the items on behalf of the victims, the representative of Governor Alia and the Executive Secretary of BESEMA, Sir James Iorpuu, expressed gratitude to NEMA and assured that the state had devised a strategy to ensure all victims benefit from the relief materials.
Speaking on behalf of other community leaders, the Zaki of Jalo Aka, Simon Bave, conveyed appreciation to NEMA and the State Emergency Management Agency for ensuring the distribution of relief materials to the victims.
In response, the representative of the House of Representatives member for Kwande and Ushango Federal Constituency, Francis Ajayl, commended Honourable Terser Ugber for facilitating the distribution of relief materials to the grassroots level.
The distribution, held at two designated central locations (St. Michael Parish in Aka and the palace of Ter Kwande in Kwande Local Government Area), was attended by various stakeholders, including the Principal Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Content Creation, Hon. Terna Andura, the Senior Legislative Aid to Hon. Terser Ugbor, and other dignitaries such as two House of Assembly members from Kwande and Ushango LGAs, representatives from BESEMA, DSS, the Police, EFCC, Community Leaders, and the media.
The relief materials comprised both food and non-food items.
