NEMA DG Zubaida Umar Wins National Excellence Award for Transformative Emergency Response Leadership

The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has been honoured with the Excellence in Emergency Response and Humanitarian Services Award at the 2025 National Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS), reaffirming her position as a leading figure in Nigeria’s humanitarian and disaster-response sector.

The award was presented on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President (Office of the Vice President), Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia. Mrs. Umar was recognised alongside other top public servants, including the governors of Bauchi, Zamfara, Kano and Adamawa States, as well as the Ministers of Aviation and Women Affairs.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, President Tinubu congratulated the awardees and urged them to sustain the standards of excellence that earned them national acclaim. He described NEAPS as an important platform for celebrating impactful public service delivery across the federation.

Founder of the annual award, Hajiya Mariam C. Mohammed, said the honourees were chosen through a rigorous assessment that highlighted their exceptional leadership, integrity, and measurable contributions to improving governance and public welfare.

Organised by The Best Strategic Media (TBS) in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the 2025 NEAPS ceremony took place on Sunday, 7 December, at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

In her reaction, Mrs. Umar expressed deep gratitude to President Tinubu and the organisers, noting that the recognition would further inspire her to advance national emergency preparedness, strengthen humanitarian interventions, and enhance public safety nationwide.

The award underscores Mrs. Umar’s transformative leadership at NEMA under the Renewed Hope Agenda, during which the agency has expanded early warning systems, improved disaster preparedness and response frameworks, and deepened collaboration with national and international partners to boost Nigeria’s resilience to emergencies.
