In response to recent attacks by unidentified gunmen in Ovia Southwest Local Government Area of Edo State, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has conducted an assessment of the affected communities.
The assessment team was led by Mr. Kenoma Ojuederie, Head of NEMA’s Edo Operations Office, in collaboration with the Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA), headed by Executive Secretary Mr. Jerry Idahosa.
The attacks reportedly impacted eight communities, but due to ongoing security concerns, the team was able to visit only four. During their visit, officials met with displaced persons, conveyed the government’s condolences, and urged them to remain calm.
Many of the displaced individuals have sought temporary refuge in various camps, while those injured are receiving medical care at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital and Ignobazuwa General Hospital.
The situation remains critical, and efforts are underway to provide necessary aid and ensure the safety of those affected.
