The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has been bestowed with the esteemed Golden World Award (GWA) for Crisis Communication by the International Public Relations Association (IPRA).
This accolade, acknowledging the exceptional public relations endeavors of the NCS, was presented during a grand ceremony on Friday, at the Metropol Palace Hotel in Belgrade, Serbia.
Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi graciously accepted the award on behalf of the NCS from IPRA President Nataša Pavlović Bujas. The recognition was in light of the “100 Days of Impactful PR at Customs Service” campaign.
Addressing attendees at the event, the Comptroller-General underscored the campaign’s significance, illustrating how it effectively tackled crucial challenges during his initial 100 days in office. He articulated, “The campaign was centered on crisis communication.
The submission made during this period was distinguished as the most outstanding, in terms of effectively addressing the campaign’s obstacles, its influence, and the favorable outcomes we have witnessed.”
The NCS campaign, which emerged victorious in the Crisis Management category, demonstrated its ineptness in maneuvering through operational complexities at the time.
The initiative facilitated enhanced collaboration with pivotal stakeholders, bolstered border security measures, and propelled substantial advancements in revenue generation.
Mr. Philip Sheppard, Secretary-General of IPRA, commended Adeniyi’s stewardship, portraying it as a pivotal element in the triumph of the campaign. “In a mere 100 days at the helm, the campaign spearheaded by Wale Adeniyi not only fortified stakeholder collaboration and markedly enhanced border security, but also yielded a noteworthy upsurge in revenue generation. Furthermore, it infused a revitalized sense of optimism and promise for the future within the organization,” he articulated.
The Golden World Awards, inaugurated in 1990, laud excellence in public relations across a diverse array of categories. The recognition of the NCS’s campaign underscores the Service’s dedication to harmonizing its actions with international benchmarks of communication and governance. Through leveraging strategic public relations, the NCS has engendered heightened awareness and adherence to customs reforms while underscoring its role in advancing national security and economic progress.
Looking forward, with 2024 designated as the ‘Year of Stakeholders’, Adeniyi reaffirmed the Service’s unwavering commitment to nurturing transparent communication channels with its associates.
“Our primary focus remains on fortifying our rapport with both established and emerging stakeholders through sustained strategic communication endeavors,” he affirmed.
He accentuated the significance of attentively listening to and addressing the concerns of those engaged with the Nigeria Customs Service.
