
The leadership and Honourable Members of the House of Representatives will participate in a Special Joint Sitting of the National Assembly on Thursday, June 12, 2025, to mark this year’s Democracy Day celebration.
The event was officially communicated to Members through an internal memorandum issued on Sunday by the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, Esq.
The Special Joint Sitting will take place at the House of Representatives Chamber, National Assembly Complex, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Preliminary proceedings will precede the arrival of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, who is expected at 12:00 noon.
This year’s Democracy Day theme is:
“26 Years of Democracy: Renewing Our Commitment to National Development.”
President Tinubu will attend as the Special Guest of Honour and is scheduled to deliver a Presidential Address to the Joint Sitting. The programme will also include goodwill messages from former presiding officers of the National Assembly and the conferment of National Honours on select legislators by the President.
The Joint Sitting is a symbolic and historic moment, highlighting the National Assembly’s central role in preserving democratic values, promoting transparency, and driving national development throughout 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance.
The House of Representatives calls on all Nigerians to honour Democracy Day with renewed patriotism, reflection, and dedication to building a more inclusive, united, and prosperous nation.
