Abuja NASFAT Gudu Community Launches Sadaqah Jariyah, Holds Special Prayers in Honour of Late Alhaja Sururat Opeloyeru

The NASFAT Islamic Centre in Gudu, Abuja, on Sunday hosted a deeply emotional and spiritually uplifting special prayer session in honour of the late Alhaja Sururat Titilayo Ayinke Adedoyin Opeloyeru, drawing family members, Islamic scholars, friends, and members of the Muslim community from across Nigeria.
The event, organised by the Imam Opeloyeru family, featured moving tributes and reflections on the life of the late matriarch, who passed away at the age of 103 after what guests described as a life of devotion, compassion, and service to humanity.
Speaking during the event, Professor Imam Musa Olaufe, Imam of Ansarudeen, Abuja branch, and a long-time friend of the deceased’s son, Imam Olawale Moshood Opeloyeru, described the gathering as an act of sadaqatul jariyah, a continuous charity on behalf of the departed.
“What we did today is nothing but sadaqah jariyah, contributing to the house of Allah on behalf of Mama,” Olaufe said. “We went to university together with Mashoud; we have journeyed through life together, and today we stand with him to honour his mother. The best gift for the dead is prayer, and that is why we are here.”
Also speaking, Imam Abdurrahman Olajide Oyediro, a legal practitioner and one of the Imams of NASFAT, emphasised the strong sense of unity demonstrated during the prayer session.
“What we witnessed today is the oneness Islam teaches,” he said. “When a Muslim faces calamity, we stand by them; and when blessed, we rejoice together. Today, Muslims from different places gathered to pray for the departed mother of one of our Imams. This strengthens our faith and our bond as one family.”
He added that the event also served as an opportunity to support the ongoing construction of the NASFAT Gudu Central Mosque, as attendees contributed generously toward its completion.
In the memories of his beloved mother, Alhaja Sururat Titilayo, Imam Olawale Moshood Opeloyeru, the deceased’s lastborn and host of the event, said that the day carried profound personal significance.
“Today is a day I will never forget,” he said. “My mother nurtured and trained me into who I am. I thank Almighty Allah for her exemplary life. She had five children, and I am the last and her only child with my father. Despite being from two families, there is no disparity among us,Alhamdulillah.”
Imam Moshood said he had long planned a sadaqatul jariyah in her honour once she passed, noting that allocating all funds raised during the event toward the mosque project would ensure continuous reward for her soul.

“I made up my mind that when Allah calls her, her name will live on through charity,” he added. “Everyone who worships in this mosque in the future contributes to her eternal reward.”
The event closed with prayers for the deceased, her family, and all attendees, as the community reaffirmed its commitment to unity, compassion, and continued charity in line with Islamic teachings.
