The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has been described as a strategic and indispensable partner in disaster management and public advocacy, particularly in strengthening emergency preparedness and response in Lagos State.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, made this assertion on Wednesday in Lagos during a courtesy visit to the agency.
Oke-Osanyintolu said NAN’s role in timely and factual information dissemination had continued to enhance public understanding of disaster management activities, while also helping to curb misinformation, false alarms and negative narratives during emergencies.
According to him, NAN’s sustained advocacy and sensitisation efforts have significantly contributed to reducing mortality and morbidity associated with disasters in the state, noting that the agency had played a critical role in projecting emergency management initiatives at a time when such efforts were largely unknown to the public.
He commended NAN’s professionalism and consistency, describing the organisation as a “home” for disaster management stakeholders and a dependable platform for public accountability.
The LASEMA permanent secretary expressed appreciation for NAN’s continued support in promoting public awareness on emergency issues and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to deepening collaboration with NAN to further enhance effective disaster management and public communication in Lagos State.

Earlier, the Acting Head of Lagos Operations of NAN, Mrs Ifeyinwa Omowole, thanked Oke-Osanyintolu for the visit and reaffirmed NAN’s commitment to objectivity, professionalism and inclusivity in emergency reportage.
Omowole assured LASEMA of NAN’s readiness to sustain a robust partnership aimed at safeguarding lives and property in Lagos, while also supporting environmental sustainability across the state.
