A human rights organisation, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has commended the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, for promoting religious tolerance and inclusive governance in the state.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued on March 18, 2026, by MURIC’s Oyo State Ambassador and Secretary, Ibrahim Agunbiade.
According to the group, Governor Eno has demonstrated a consistent commitment to fostering unity among diverse religious groups, noting that his administration has embraced inclusivity without politicising religious relations.
MURIC highlighted the governor’s recent hosting of Muslim leaders at an iftar dinner at the Government House in Uyo during the ongoing Ramadan fast, describing the gesture as a reflection of strong interfaith harmony.
Quoting the governor, the group noted his assertion that “no communities develop on their own without the contributions of visitors and residents,” adding that the remark underscores the administration’s openness and recognition of diversity as a strength.
The organisation further observed that Eno had maintained cordial relations with the Muslim community even before assuming office, including regularly breaking fast with Muslims in Eket during Ramadan.
It added that the current Ramadan marks the third consecutive year the governor has hosted the Muslim community for iftar at the Government House, describing the move as a fulfilment of his earlier promise.

MURIC also lauded steps taken by the state government to address the absence of a Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board in Akwa Ibom, noting that efforts to establish one would further strengthen inclusiveness and ensure equal representation for all religious groups.
The group concluded that the governor’s approach serves as a model for peaceful coexistence and good governance in Nigeria.
