Muhammed Babangida, son of former military president Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has formally declined his appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BoA), just days after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the nomination.
In a letter addressed to the President dated July 21, 2025, and titled “Declining Appointment as Chairman, Bank of Agriculture,” Babangida conveyed his deep appreciation for the honour but cited “a convergence of personal and professional considerations” as reasons for turning down the role.
“This decision was not made lightly,” he wrote. “It stems from a convergence of personal and professional considerations which, at this time, would not allow me to serve with the level of focus and commitment the position rightly demands.”
Babangida, who resides in Maitama, Abuja, expressed unwavering support for President Tinubu’s vision of a prosperous and self-sufficient Nigeria and pledged to contribute in other capacities.
“I remain fully committed to the vision of a prosperous and self-sufficient Nigeria under your leadership… and stand ready to support national development in other ways where my expertise may be of service,” he added.

The development may prompt a fresh round of consultations within the Presidency as the administration seeks strong leadership to drive agricultural reform through the Bank of Agriculture, a critical institution in Nigeria’s food security and rural economic growth efforts.
President Tinubu had recently announced a number of strategic appointments across key sectors, signaling a push for performance and revitalisation of underperforming agencies.
