The Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, who is also the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, has announced that Friday, March 20, 2026, will be observed as Eid-el-Fitr across Nigeria.
The declaration followed the non-sighting of the crescent moon that signals the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. In a statement issued by the Wazirin Sokoto, Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Sultanate Council confirmed that no verified sighting of the Shawwal 1447AH crescent was reported from any part of the country on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Thursday, March 19, 2026, will complete the 30 days of Ramadan, with Friday marking the first day of Shawwal and the commencement of Eid-el-Fitr celebrations nationwide.
The Sultan urged Muslims across the country to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, and sustained progress in Nigeria, as they mark the end of the month-long fasting and spiritual reflection.
