Kaduna, Nigeria – The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has emphasized the urgent need for a robust and adaptive national security framework, highlighting the progress achieved through enhanced cooperation among security agencies and stakeholders.
Speaking at the North-West Zonal Security Summit held at Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Hall in Kaduna, Minister Badaru stressed that national security is a shared responsibility, requiring active participation from citizens, communities, and state governments.
Organized by the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on National Security, the summit aimed to foster dialogue on regional security challenges and collaborative solutions. In his keynote goodwill message, the Minister reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, with national security, unity, and community resilience as central pillars.
Highlighting the President’s vision of a harmonious society founded on shared prosperity, mutual tolerance, and respect for all Nigerians, Badaru acknowledged the pivotal role of state governors as Chief Security Officers. He praised their efforts in providing logistics support, implementing early-warning systems, and engaging communities to enhance security.
The Minister also lauded traditional rulers for building trust and facilitating mediation, women and youth groups for supporting vigilance and recovery, and religious and civil society organizations for combating misinformation and promoting peace and reintegration initiatives.
Reinforcing presidential directives, he urged sustained collaboration among the Armed Forces and all security agencies to strengthen intelligence sharing, deepen interagency coordination, and improve protection for schools and rural communities.
He also commended the Senate for convening the summit, describing it as a key platform for promoting transparency, accountability, and national dialogue on security matters.

Concluding his address, Minister Badaru assured stakeholders of the Ministry of Defence’s full commitment to working with partners to strengthen stability, build community confidence, and advance the Renewed Hope Agenda across the North-West zone.
The summit drew a wide range of participants, including Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani, the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, representatives of other state governors, traditional rulers, Ulama, civil society organizations, and other prominent stakeholders.
