Abuja, Nigeria – The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NEWS Engineering Nigeria Ltd, Lady Josephine Nwaeze, has announced plans to invest heavily in renewable energy projects and electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in Abia State, in partnership with Chinese renewable energy giant Scienotech.
Speaking at the Rural Electrification Agency’s (REA) State-by-State Roundtable Engagement with Abia State on Wednesday in Abuja, Lady Nwaeze said the collaboration is aimed at transforming the state’s power sector, supporting Governor Alex Otti’s economic agenda, and boosting industrial growth.
She disclosed that NEWS Engineering, a 40-year-old indigenous company recognized by ECOWAS as a “Rural Electrification Champion,” has already carried out energy audits in key industrial and commercial hubs, including the Abia State Industrial Innovation Park, Owerenta-Usisioma Industrial Area, Mechanic Village, and major markets across the state.
“Abia State has changed dramatically under Governor Otti’s leadership, and we are ready to invest. We have conducted energy audits and submitted business cases for identified projects. What we need now is the state government’s support through regulatory approvals and land allocation to move to site,” Nwaeze stated.
Highlighting the partnership with Scienotech, she said the initiative will not only deliver solar mini-grids and other renewable energy solutions but also introduce a robust electric vehicle ecosystem in the state. Plans include the sale of EVs capable of covering 400 kilometers on a single charge, the construction of charging stations, service centers, and the establishment of renewable energy training programs.

“Scienotech is a leading company in China with significant financial capacity. They are ready to invest, and this partnership will drive economic growth, job creation, and environmental sustainability in Abia,” she added.
Nwaeze emphasized that successful implementation of these projects would enhance resilience for public infrastructure, attract further investments, and solidify Abia State’s position as a leader in renewable energy adoption.
