The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has called on Muslims to use the occasion of Eid-ul-Maulud to reflect on the virtues of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and emulate his exemplary lifestyle.
The Federal Government had earlier declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to mark the Prophet’s birth.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau described Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as a universal role model whose teachings remain relevant to humanity.
“As we celebrate the birthday of our noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW), let us reflect on his virtues and teachings and follow his examples in our daily lives. We must embrace compassion, peace, and mutual support as he preached,” Barau said.
The lawmaker, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, urged Muslims and Nigerians at large to pray for peace, stability, and prosperity, stressing that unity is vital in overcoming the nation’s challenges.
Reaffirming the National Assembly’s commitment to addressing gaps in the country’s legal framework, Senator Barau highlighted ongoing constitutional reforms under his chairmanship of the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution.

“We recently conducted zonal public hearings across the six geopolitical zones to capture citizens’ input on proposed amendments. Critical issues such as local government autonomy, electoral and judicial reforms, state creation, state police, and inclusive governance were thoroughly examined. The turnout was massive, and we are determined to ensure that no stone is left unturned in shaping laws that truly reflect the aspirations of Nigerians,” he stated.
The National Assembly is scheduled to resume from its annual recess on September 23, 2025.
