Senator Diket Plang (Plateau Central) on Tuesday urged the Nigerian Senate to escalate security operations in Mangu and Jos North Local Government Areas following a deadly wave of attacks that has shattered Plateau State’s reputation as the “Home of Peace and Tourism.”
Plang described a chilling attack on Sunday, March 29, 2026, in Angor Ukuba, Jos North, where families returning from church services were ambushed in a “well-coordinated and well-orchestrated” strike. Scores of people were killed, and many others injured, plunging the community into grief and fear.
Highlighting decades of criminal violence, Plang warned that recent assaults, including a March attack in Mangu, reflect a complex threat fueled by economic hardship, ethnic tensions, and religious divides, with indiscriminate violence suggesting terrorist motives.
Senators supporting the motion stressed the human and economic toll: displacement of residents, crippling of local agriculture, and growing threats to Nigeria’s food security. The violence has instilled “perpetual fear” among Plateau’s peaceful communities.
In response, the Senate resolved to:
Observe a minute of silence in honor of the victims.
Direct the Inspector-General of Police to investigate and bring perpetrators to justice.
Dispatch a high-powered delegation, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, to console victims and residents.

Establish permanent security outposts to dismantle criminal hideouts and restore safety.
