Legal Icon, Onoja to be Consecrate Elder of United Evangelical Church

All paths will converge on October 27, 2024 towards Ofante-Ogugu in Olamaboro local government area of Kogi State, where a distinguished Legal luminary, Dr. Ogwu James Onoja, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), will be ordained as an Elder of the renowned United Evangelical Church (UEC).

The ordination, anticipated to be graced by legal luminaries, acquaintances, and well-wishers of the esteemed lawyer from all corners of the nation, is scheduled to take place at his ancestral abode in Ofante-Ogugu.

The ceremonial event will be presided over by Pastor James Ameh of the UEC and will also witness the presence of eminent clergymen from diverse denominations across the country.

Onoja SAN, a philanthropist, distinguished community leader, and profoundly inclusive and devout individual, is being bestowed with the esteemed Eldership of the Church as a token of appreciation for his invaluable contributions to the overall advancement of the church specifically and Ofante-Ogugu at large.

He is recognized as a devout family man of Christian faith, with his amiable wife, Mrs. Rosemary, and children being notably active across various sectors of their congregation.

Born on February 19, 1968, in Idah, Kogi State, Ogwu James Onoja is a legal practitioner and notary public affiliated with the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

He has authored numerous publications on legal and societal matters in Nigeria, which include “The Supreme Court Rules: Practice and Procedure” and “The Court of Appeal Rules: Practice and Procedure,” both issued in 2010; “The Federal High Court Rules: Practice and Procedure,” volumes 1 and 2, published in 2012; and “Fundamental Rights Enforcement Procedure Rules,” published in 2021.

Dr. Ogwu James Onoja, SAN, FCArb, serves as the Principal Partner of the Abuja-based law firm, Dr. O.J. Onoja, SAN & Associates, with branches in several states.

A 1990 Law alumnus of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), he underwent legal training at the Nigeria Law School, Lagos, and was called to the bar in 1991.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Law from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), as well as a PGDM and MBA from the University of Calabar (UNICAL).

Onoja SAN is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the International Bar Association (IBA), the Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM), a Fellow of the Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb) in the UK and Nigeria, a Fellow of the Institute of Directors (IoD) in the UK and Nigeria, a Member of the Capital Market Consultant (Solicitor) with SEC, and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Cost Management (FCCM).

He has held positions as Counsel at Humphrey Abah & Co. (1992-1994), Principal Partner at Onoja Consulting Solicitors (1994 – 1997), and Senior Counsel at T.J. Onomigbo Okpoko, SAN & Co. (1997 – 2000).

Upon establishing O.J. Onoja & Associates, incorporating Onoja Consulting Solicitors in 2000, he has served as the Principal Partner from 2000 to the present day.

He sits on the Board of Directors of various companies such as ACEN Insurance Plc, Macks Farm Nigeria Limited, Goomeej Nigeria Limited, among others. Additionally, he is a registered Capital Market Consultant with SEC.
