
The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has confirmed a fire incident involving the LAGFERRY vessel Igbega Eko at Ipakodo Ferry Terminal, Ikorodu, around 6:45 AM today. The vessel was en route to Victoria Island when the incident occurred.
Upon receiving the distress call, LASWA’s emergency response team promptly arrived at the scene, working alongside LAGFERRY, other boat operators, and first responders to contain the situation. All passengers and crew were safely evacuated, with four individuals sustaining minor injuries; they are currently receiving medical care.
A preliminary investigation is underway in collaboration with LAGFERRY and relevant stakeholders to determine the cause of the fire. LASWA remains committed to safety and will implement necessary measures to enhance fire prevention across Lagos waterways.
We assure the public that all safety protocols are in place, and ferry operations continue as scheduled. Passengers are encouraged to remain calm and adhere to safety guidelines while traveling.
