The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), has announced plans to officially launch the Omi Eko Project on Friday, October 17, at the iconic Five Cowries Terminal, Falomo.
LASWA’s General Manager, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lagos, describing the initiative as a major milestone in the state’s drive toward sustainable development, advanced water transportation, and smart city innovation.
“The launch will draw distinguished government officials, development partners, key stakeholders, community leaders, and the press to witness the debut of this transformative initiative,” Emmanuel said.
He explained that the event, scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., would feature appearances by top dignitaries, keynote addresses, a virtual overview of the Omi Eko Project, and the ceremonial unveiling by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Emmanuel said the Omi Eko Project is designed to transform the Lagos water transportation system through the integration of modern technology, enhanced terminal infrastructure, and environmentally sustainable practices.
According to him, the initiative will deploy over 78 high-capacity electric ferries, introduce digital ticketing systems, develop intelligent terminals, and incorporate cutting-edge safety measures, all aimed at reducing commute times and providing a reliable, eco-friendly transportation option for millions of Lagos residents.

“The Five Cowries Terminal, a central hub of intermodal transport in Lagos, offers the perfect location for this launch, symbolising the seamless integration of land and water mobility as envisioned in the Lagos Urban Mobility Plan,” Emmanuel added.
He invited members of the media to cover the event, noting that press kits and interview opportunities would be available during the launch.
