The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), in collaboration with the National Association of Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Practitioners (NARAP), recently joined the global community to commemorate the 2025 edition of World Refrigeration Day and NARAP Day.
The event took place at the LASEPA Conference Room, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
World Refrigeration Day, marked internationally every June 26, is dedicated to recognizing the indispensable role cooling technologies play in modern life—from food preservation and vaccine storage to data center operations and household comfort.
Welcoming stakeholders, the General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, represented by Mrs. Abdulwarees Sholanke, Director of Research and Development, emphasized that while refrigeration and air-conditioning underpin many critical services, the sector often operates “behind the scenes” without due recognition.
Dr. Ajayi praised NARAP, especially its Lagos State Chapter, for consistently promoting professionalism and environmental responsibility within the refrigeration and air-conditioning industry through training, certification, and public awareness.
Speaking on behalf of NARAP, the National President, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Salawudeen, represented by the Deputy National President, Prince Olafemi Adeleke, expressed deep appreciation to LASEPA for its unwavering support in advancing the association’s mission.
Alhaji Ahmed noted that this annual celebration brings crucial attention to an industry vital for safeguarding public health, ensuring food security, and supporting economic development.
In her address, the Director of Environmental Sustainability at LASEPA, Mrs. Adedayo Adebayo, underscored the sector’s essential role in maintaining public health, comfort, and climate stability.
She called on practitioners and stakeholders to adopt environmentally friendly refrigerants and technologies, strictly adhere to environmental standards, and commit to collective action toward climate change mitigation.

“Refrigeration and air-conditioning are indispensable, but we must advance their use responsibly to protect both human health and our environment,” Mrs. Adebayo added.
The 2025 joint celebration of World Refrigeration Day and NARAP Day not only highlighted the industry’s achievements but also reinforced the importance of capacity building, compliance with modern environmental standards, and the need to transition to sustainable cooling solutions in line with global efforts to combat climate change.
