President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the official postings of 65 ambassadors-designate, including 31 non-career and 34 career diplomats, to Nigeria’s missions across the world and at the United Nations.
Among the prominent appointments, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim was posted as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, while former presidential aide Reno Omokri was assigned to Mexico City, Mexico.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who noted that the Senate had earlier confirmed the ambassadors in December.
Other notable non-career postings include former Senate Leader Ita Enang to South Africa; former Minister of Health Isaac Folorunso Adewole to Ottawa, Canada; former Chief of Army Staff Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau to Beijing, China; and former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany.
Also appointed are former Ogun State deputy governor Olufemi Pedro to Australia, former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Ayodele Oke to France, and former Independent National Electoral Commission chairman Mahmud Yakubu to Qatar.
In the career category, Ambassador Segun Ige was posted to Lebanon, Ambassador Abdussalam Habu Zayyad to Senegal, Ambassador Aminu Nasir to Ethiopia, and Ambassador Adebayo Emmanuel Ayeni to Brussels, Belgium, among others.
According to the Presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already secured agrément from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner-designate Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu and from France for Ambassador Ayo Oke.

The ministry has also forwarded the nominations of the remaining envoys to their respective host countries to obtain the required diplomatic agrément in line with international practice.
President Tinubu further directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence the induction programme for all ambassadors-designate and high commissioners ahead of their deployment to various missions worldwide.
