Abuja, Nigeria — In a major step towards digital governance, the Federal Ministry of Steel Development has officially launched its Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) and gone live on the 1-Gov Platform, marking a significant stride in Nigeria’s public sector modernization efforts.

The event, held on Monday, November 10, 2025, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, was described as a transformative milestone aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, improving data management, and promoting transparency across the ministry’s functions.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, expressed optimism that the initiative would streamline document management and facilitate digital transformation within the ministry. He noted that the ECMS would enable the digitization of records, automation of workflows, and secure access to vital information — reducing paper usage and improving collaboration among staff.

“The introduction of the Enterprise Content Management System marks a pivotal moment for the Ministry. This launch is not just about technology but about fostering a culture of efficiency, accountability, and improved service delivery that will contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s steel industry,” Prince Audu stated.

In his welcome address, Permanent Secretary, Dr. Chris Osa Isokpunwu, described the launch as the ministry’s formal entry into the era of integrated digital governance, under the ‘One-Gov’ initiative driven by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

“The One-Gov initiative is a landmark reform ensuring that MDAs operate as one connected system, enabling better data sharing, transparency, and efficient service delivery,” he said. “This transition is more than a technological shift — it is an opportunity to modernize our processes, strengthen coordination, and deliver effectively on our mandate to revitalize the steel sector.”

Dr. Isokpunwu commended the Honourable Minister for his strategic leadership, as well as the ICT team and staff for their dedication in achieving this milestone, urging all personnel to embrace the change with enthusiasm and commitment to excellence.

Also speaking, Mr. Wumi, representing Galaxy Backbone Limited, the government’s ICT service provider, stated that the Ministry of Steel Development had fully automated its standard operating procedures through the ECMS, transitioning “from paper to less paper and paperless operations.”

The launch, according to a statement signed by Tine-Iulun M.A., anipr, Assistant Director (Information & PR), signifies the Ministry’s commitment to aligning with the Federal Government’s vision for a digitally driven, efficient, and transparent public service.
