The Lagos State Muslim Community has expressed strong support for the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), rejecting the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission’s (ICPC) classification of NAHCON as a “high corruption risk” agency.
In a statement signed by its President, Muhammed Oyinlomo Danmole, the community emphasized its unwavering backing of NAHCON, commending the agency for its transparency and its efforts to address the concerns raised by the ICPC.
The statement clarified that the ICPC’s Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard (EICS) is a diagnostic tool designed to highlight procedural gaps, not an outright indictment of corruption.
The community acknowledged the operational challenges NAHCON faces, including leadership transitions and logistical complexities, which may have contributed to the agency’s flagged status.

The statement also noted that NAHCON has taken proactive steps to address these issues, such as reinforcing adherence to financial regulations and ensuring compliance with institutional standards.
The Lagos State Muslim Community urged the public to interpret the ICPC’s report within its proper context, pointing out that a “high corruption risk” label does not equate to a declaration of guilt but rather serves as an opportunity for improvement.
Additionally, the community called on the ICPC to refine its evaluation methods to account for the unique challenges faced by agencies like NAHCON.
