The Lagos State Government has launched an investigation into an incident involving an ambulance at the 11th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, which left a female non-athlete injured near the finishing line area on Saturday.
The incident occurred on February 14, 2026, when an ambulance deployed as part of the official medical emergency response for the marathon came in contact with the woman while conveying athletes who had earlier required medical attention within the event arena.
According to a press statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, officials at the scene immediately alerted the ambulance crew to stop upon noticing the situation.
The emergency medical team promptly assessed the affected individual and provided on-the-spot care before transferring her to a public health facility for further evaluation.
She reportedly sustained bruises and complained of chest pains but was stabilised at the scene, with her vital signs confirmed to be stable.
The government stated that the patient is currently receiving medical care, responding positively to treatment, and remains under close professional supervision.

The Ministry of Health and the Sports Commission are monitoring the situation, with senior government officials said to have visited the hospital to assess her condition.
