A sibling of the Secretary to the Kano State Government (SSG), Dr. Baffa Bichi, Hajiya Lami, has switched her allegiance from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Lami, a prominent female organizer in Kano State, announced her departure from the NNPP at the residence of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I Jibrin, in Abuja. She expressed her intention to persuade her brother to follow suit and join the APC.
Baffa, who previously served as the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TetFund) from 2016 to 2019 under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, was appointed as the SSG by Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on May 30, 2023.
In February of the previous year, Senator Barau triumphed over Baffa, the NNPP’s candidate for the Kano North Senatorial District, garnering 234,652 votes compared to Baffa’s 177,014.
Lami declared, “Today, alongside my companions and political allies from Kano State, we have forsaken the NNPP in favor of the APC to collaborate with like-minded individuals in addressing the challenges that confront our State and nation. I intend to bring my brother, Baffa Bichi, into the APC in the near future.”
The female leader, accompanied by other NNPP members, made this announcement at the Deputy President of the Senate’s residence. They all formally renounced their ties with the NNPP, the predominant party in Kano State.
Senator Barau warmly welcomed them into the APC, emphasizing that the party has the capacity to accommodate all Nigerians.
He assured them that the party would not falter in its commitment and vowed to uphold the principles that have endeared them to the APC.
“We are dedicated to treating all party members with equity and impartiality. The President is diligently working towards restoring our nation to a path of advancement and prosperity. I urge you to stand by him; our nation will emerge stronger, bringing contentment to us all,” he affirmed.
In a separate development, hundreds of NNPP members from Shanono LGA in Kano State officially joined the APC on Tuesday. They gathered at the Deputy President of the Senate’s office at the National Assembly, represented by five distinct groups.
These groups included the Kwankwasiyya Hunters Forum, led by Murtala Abubakar Kwamanda; the Kwankwasiyya Youth Vanguard, under the leadership of Murtala Sani; the Kwankwasiyya Miyetti Allah, guided by Ja’e Adamu; the Kwankwasiyya Radio-Media, headed by Abdullahi DPO; and the Kwankwasiyya Butchers Forum, led by Sulaiman Bala Mainama.
Accompanying them were Alhaji Isiya Sheme, the APC Chairman in Shanono LGA, and Alhaji Adamu Saidu, the party’s caucus leader in the local government.
