As Nigeria’s are faced with numerous economic challenges and insecurities, Hon. Agbodike Paschal representing Ihiala Federal Constituency of Anambra State in the House of Representatives has said insecurity contributed to about 70% of food scarcity that the nation is experiencing today.
He dejected that situations in Nigeria are overwhelming, adding that in his constituency, one of the greatest challenges they are facing today is the problem of insecurity.
The lawmaker representing Ihiala Federal Constituency of Anambra State made this statement in an interactive session with the journalist over the weekend.
Hon. Agbodike exclaimed that in a situation whereby it becomes difficult or near impossible for farmers to access their farmland, to have food security will be difficult.
“So I’ve been trying my best, hoping that my best will be enough to help to ameliorate the suffering of my people, the great people of the Ihala Federal Consultancy, the people I represent.
“I’ve gone through all the relevant government agencies that can be of help to help our people.
“Food supply, help our people to also access their farmland, help our people through the Ministry of Agriculture to support rural farmers. If you don’t go to a farm, it is difficult for one to feed.
“Our people are known farmers among every other human endeavor. Most of our rural women and men are farmers.
“So I’m calling on the federal government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant agencies, to assist the people of Ihiala Federal Constituency when the case of insecurity has been bedeviling our people, killing every day.
“That should be an intervention from the federal government.
“Supply of food, presently, that one is of utmost importance. Why does the federal government work to solve the problem of insecurity? Let there be food security for now.
“From what I know, the federal government has a lot of plans.
“They have given a lot of funds to the Ministry of Agriculture for the 2024 budget. Looking at the proposal, there is hope that things will be alright. For not quite long, there is hope.”
