The Baale of Ijagemo in Lagos, High Chief Jimoh Olateju Balogun, has denied any involvement in the circumstances surrounding the death of Charles Nwachukwu, urging residents to remain calm and allow security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation.
Nwachukwu reportedly died following a confrontation with suspected hoodlums in the Ijagemo area, an incident that has heightened tension and sparked rumours within the community.
Addressing journalists, Balogun stated that he had no prior knowledge of the घटना and was only informed after it had occurred.
“I am not aware of what happened until I was informed to intervene, but it has been reported that the man has died,” he said.
The community leader explained that preliminary information indicated a fight had broken out, which later resulted in the fatality. He added that the matter had been reported to the police, who have since taken over the investigation.
Balogun expressed concern over what he described as false allegations linking him to the incident, emphasising that the घटना occurred at a beer parlour located far from his palace. He maintained that he neither participated in the dispute nor had knowledge of its cause.
While extending condolences to the family of the deceased, he urged aggrieved individuals to seek justice through lawful channels rather than resorting to violence or reprisals.
He also warned against attempts to incite unrest, stating that anyone found fomenting trouble would be handed over to security agencies.

Reaffirming the peaceful nature of the Ijagemo community, Balogun stressed that residents of diverse ethnic backgrounds, including members of the Igbo community, coexist harmoniously without discrimination.
He encouraged residents to continue their normal activities, assuring them that law enforcement authorities are working to identify and prosecute those responsible for the killing.
